A new farm and a new approach

Previously we have tried to coordinate a group of aspiring farmers so that we could collectively give investors a return and secure for ourselves land for our individual enterprises.

This time we are taking a tilt at a farm where our own operation Fish Farmers will be the lead tenant. If this works then Fish Farmer will have a home and our problem will be solved. However, The farm is 300acres and we will only be using about 100acres. That means there is plenty of room for other people to join us on the farm.

Which is something we are really keen to see happen. We are really keen to support aspiring farmers secure a peace of land to start their farming journey. While we are passionate about this it’s not altruism.

Having a range of other farming, value adding, crafting and compatible enterprises on the farm will help everyone to market their products. A small scale brewer, a glamping business, an artist, a market gardener, a cider orchard and more all on the same property would create a huge amount of marketing pull. Would make it easier for all of us to sell our products and market our businesses.

Just like a regular co-working space a co-working farm provides a huge range of advantages. For everyone including us.

Investor Support

We have just launched our campaign to gather investor support but its looking very positive that we will have access to the $2 million of the ~$4 million we need to get started. Stay tuned for more information on this and how are fundraising efforts are progressing.

Aspiring Farmers and a Path to ownership

Previous iterations of Hedgerow Farm had a very clearly defined path where the aspiring farmers and tenants of the farm could come to own the farm. That’s still possible but only for aspiring farmers that commit before we pull the trigger. Last time we had arranged conditional financing on the basis of aspiring farmers committing to leases that paid 60% of the mortgage costs. When we only got to ~50% we couldn’t proceed. This time it is the investment quality of Fish Farmers and our ability to use the farm in mind for aquaculture that is driving the investment. We want to accommodate aspiring farmers and we want to give them a path to ownership for exactly the same reasons as we are committed to an employee ownership scheme for Fish Farmers. However, we can wait. If there are aspiring farmers out there and they want to own a share in the farm then they need to act now. Act later and you can still be tenants but not owners until we set up a new farm.

So if you are keen to get started check out the farm at this link http://www.fishfarmers.com.au/2022/02/10/a-unique-amazing-farm/ and get in touch so we can discuss your requirements and how we can help each other.
